Man fined Ksh5,000 for threatening to rape and hack his mother to death over Ksh10 bob

A middle aged man has been slapped with a Ksh5,000 fine for allegedly threatening to rape his mother and hack her to death in Dagoretti sub-county, Nairobi.

Jamea Waweru was arraigned in court on Thursday to answer murders and rape allegations against his mother.

According to the initial reports obtained by, Waweru commited the offence on November 26 after his mother Mary Waithera denied to give him Ksh10 to buy Sukuma wiki.

After denying to give her son the said amount, Waithera proceeded to ask her son where the keys to their main house were.

This is said to have angered Waweru who became infuriated and turned violent against his mother.

Waweru is said to have begun insulting his mother and abusing her before grabbing a machete and starting chasing her around their compound.

It is during this altercation that Waweru reportedly threatened to rape and hack his mother to death with the panga.

The mother was, however, saved from her rough son by neighbours who heard her calling for help. They managed to restrain the young man but he later tried to escape before he was taken to the police station.

Upon interrogation, the police established that the suspect has been having a problem with drug abuse.

Principal Magistrate Chares Mwaniki charged for causing a disturbance after he denied all the above allegatiobs and released on a cash bail of Ksh5,000.
