This is why today, we have decided to review the Kenyans’ top 10 favorite online games. Regardless of which game you try from this list, you certainly won’t be disappointed!

10. DOTA 2

DOTA 2 is an exciting multiplayer video game that was launched in 2015 by Valve Corporation. Over the years, it has gained a lot of popularity all over the world.

DOTA 2 is played in matches by two teams consisting of five players in an online battle arena. Each team has to occupy and defend its own base.

The team that destroys first the opponent’s “Ancient” (it’s a big structure that can be found within the team’s base) wins the match.

This game successfully combines elements of real-time strategy games and tower defense games creating a unique gaming experience for the players. Thus, no wonder that DOTA 2 has a huge player base in Kenya as well.

9. Online Roulette Games

Kenyans like to gamble online in their free time, particularly they enjoy playing online roulette games. These games are not only entertaining but also easy to play.

All the players have to do is to make their bet, push a button to spin the wheel, and wait for the ball to land in one of the numbers on the wheel.

8. Hearthstone

Hearthstone is a popular strategy card game from Blizzard Entertainment. This fun and fast-paced game is easy to learn.

In Hearthstone, two opponents are taking turns to play cards from their hands. Interestingly, each player is represented by a selected hero, a character from the Warcraft lore that has a unique power.

What’s the main objective of the game? It’s quite simple: to destroy the other player’s hero before they can do so to you.

7. Counter-Strike: Global Offensive (CS:GO)

Similar to DOTA 2, Counter-Strike: Global Offensive (CS:GO) was also developed by Valve Corporation.

However, in the case of CS:GO, they worked together with another video game development company called Hidden Path Entertainment.

This multiplayer first-person shooter game is the fourth game in the well-known Counter-Strike series.

In CS:GO, two teams (Terrorists and Counter-Terrorists) are playing against each other.

Both teams have their own objectives. While terrorists have to plant a bomb and capture hostages, counter-terrorists need to either prevent terrorists from planting the bombs or defuse them and rescue all hostages.

6. Apex Legends

Without any doubt, Apex Legends is also among the most popular online games in Kenya.

This fantastic battle royale game was developed by Respawn Entertainment and has been launched in 2019 on most platforms. Right now Apex Legends is not available yet on Android and iOS devices.

To play Apex Legends, players need to choose their character (one from the 18 unique legends) and build squads of three. The goal is to hunt for weapons and defeat the other teams in the game.

The winner of the game is the squad that stays alive until the end. However, the game’s release is planned for 2022 on mobile devices.

5. League of Legends (LoL)

League of Legends is a multiplayer, team-based strategy game from Riot Games. In the game, two teams consisting of five champions work together to destroy the enemy’s base and defend their side of the map.

The team that destroys the opponent’s Nexus (the core building of the team’s base) first wins. Players can choose from more than 140 great champions that have all different attributes and skills in LoL.

Although LoL was released back in 2009, due to the amazing graphics and exciting gameplay, it’s still one of the most played online games all over the world.

4. Minecraft

Minecraft is an interesting sandbox game developed by Mojang Studios. Since there are no goals to achieve in the game, players can do whatever they want.

They can create their unique 3D world by discovering and using different tools and items and building different structures or earthworks. Minecraft can be played from a first-person perspective and a third-person perspective as well.

3. Call of Duty

Call of Duty is one of the greatest first-person shooter games where the gameplay revolves around wars. Under the Call of Duty franchise, numerous games have been released.

Originally, the Call of Duty series focused on the theme of World War II. But later on, the developers have switched to a new, more modern setting.

Luckily, players loved modern warfare as well, so the enormous user base of this game continued to grow.

2. Fortnite Battle Royale

Fortnite Battle Royale is a popular battle royale game launched by Epic Games.

In Battle Royale, not less than 100 players skydive from the Battle Bus onto an island where they go against each other and have to defend themselves. Eventually, the island starts to shrink gradually until “the storm” consumes the whole playable area.

To achieve victory, players need to survive right until the end.

1.   PlayersUnknown Battlegrounds (PUBG)

When it comes to the most popular online games in Kenya, PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds, or PUBG is definitely at the top of the list.

The game was released by PUBG Corporation in 2017. Just like in Fortnite Battle Royale, 100 players participate in the game.

The players first parachute onto the island, then try to kill each other. The ultimate goal is to be the last one standing while the game area is continuously decreasing in size. Users can choose to enter the match alone or in groups (up to four people).
